I don't actually have the motor yet Im still debating wheather I should get an Rb20det or Sr20det I can get a complete Rb20 swap for $1200 and a complete Sr20 swap for $1800(oh yea and my friend has a skyline crossmemeber that he's willing to hold & sell to me for $300)
It will be daily driven most of the time with occasional drifting and track racing but it's not going to be mainly a drift or track car.
Compared to the Sr I know that the parts for the Rb20 are not as abundant but from your experience if you have an Rb20 I would like to how how the parts search is coming along for you.
Going from my past, ive had a couple of rb swaps and on my most recent of an sr. for more daily use id go with a sr, only for the reason that you won't have over heating problems and parts are more excessible. My buddy makes mounts for the rb swap, so if it came down to it you wouldnt need to buy the crossmember. parts searching was not difficult for rb's that ive found, unless looking for a thermostat housing. i love rb's i love the power, sound etc, i hate the overheating. conwest's s14 with the rb20 is the only rb that i was succesfully able to not overheat in traffic. if i was you and plan on doing a little drifting there and dailying, go with an sr.
^ yea my shit overheated pretty bad.
pretty sure i blew the headgasket lol
guess ill find out eventually
i wanted to get an rb but shit im scared of overheating and installment(doing by myself) and wasting about 2g on getting it running
Thanks for the info hammy I appreciate it im going with the Sr20 becuase It will be my daily and it's really useful to have so much of a selection for parts
Get the RB20 only if you want to use it as a paper weight.
2.0 liter inline 6? why?
get the sr20 more parts are available. sits better in the engine bay too.
Agreed Bumnah Sr20 it is

maybe you should do every other possible thing to your car before you get an engine with more power, because based on half your threads you have a problem with going fast when you shouldn't be. Just by completing all suspension work you'll have more "fun" in your car than slapping a different turbocharged engine into a basically stock car.
I have to agree with Silvia? on this one. Both of my S14's have a KA24DE in them and I have fun driving the cars, but I've also done suspension mods to both of them and it has made them different cars as a result. I noticed a huge difference in handling just by installing coilovers. My Kouki has alot more suspension mods than the Zenki does but the Zenki is not lacking in handling either and it has it's fair share.
Unless your existing KA engine is giving you major problems or you think it is getting ready to go, I would focus on giving the car upgrades to make it handle better and you can give it things that enhance the KA horsepower a little and the "get up and go" of the car. My stock KA Kouki moves! The difference was (and you can cheap out on some of these parts) an Injen Air intake, Megan Headers, BRM 2.5" exhaust, High flow cat, EGR delete (don't know what kind of inspections you have in your county), Nismo racing clutch, Nismo pressure plate, Nismo slave cylinder, Nismo engine mounts, NGK plugs and wires, DSS Aluminum Driveshaft, Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel, and an S14 JDM LSD. My Kouki has immediate response when I hit the gas, but of course the top end is lacking once I get going fast there isn't much power to draw from.
I would at least get coilovers if you don't have them already. I know people will tell you otherwise but I really like my K-Sport coilovers that are on the Zenki! People will tell you that they suck, but they are cheap and they are so easy to work with and provide a good ride and handling for a coilover set. I haven't had the first issue with them. I have KTS (a lot more expensive) coilovers on my Kouki and they have been nothing but problems since I've had them installed. They are very stiff and not easy to adjust at all. I'd also get a nice set of Sway Bars. I have Whiteline sway bars on my Kouki, but you can go with a cheaper brand and you probably won't even notice. I'd also think about getting a Nismo Power Brace, better Steering Rack bushings, and strut tower braces, but do the mods first listed above before going deeper unless you have the cash. If you get it done all at once then you save on having to get wheel alignments done after every suspension mod you do.
Your signature photo shows that you still have stock wheels on the car. I'd change them out the same time coilovers or even a spring setup was done. You can get a set of 350Z wheels for very cheap on Ebay and around the forums like I did. You can also get some cheap used racing type wheels with tires from the forums as well.
I'd really sit down and write a list of things you'd like to do to the car eventually and rate them in order of importance to you and go from there. That helps you work with finances better and it helps to let yourself know what you really might need instead of what you think you want for the car. If speeding is your sin of choice then I think I would stay away from going with a Turbo engine. It will save you money and heartache in the future. A turbo engine requires a lot more maintenance then an N/A engine. You will also find yourself spending extra money for an engine upgrade here and there so money keeps flowing out and your chances of something breaking goes up significantly when you go with a turbo engine. The extra power from an SR20DET may require you to do a Z32 brake upgrade so the car is more manageable.
Just a crap load of stuff to sit and think about......
Drive slow and stay safe Fred!

Thanks for the input Sivia? and Sean it is much appreciated.Just to let you all know what's done to my car so far:Tein he coilovers, spl tension rods, new oem control arms, and an Hks legal exhaust system. To have A faster car is a reason im getting an Sr but it's not the only reason:I love the way the Sr sounds period and I would love to hear the sound of an hks ssqv bov in between shifts.I always wanted another turbo'd engine since I was 16 and had an eclipse gsx that only lasted a month(I parted it out cause' I didn't have enough money to fix the problems it had...Long story short I brought a lemon)...well now im 22 and I think my time for a turbo'd engine is past due!I know I have a problem with speed sometimes but it's all mind over matter IMO.I don't speed every single second im on the street there is some "casual driver" in me I just speed sometimes and happen to get caught sometimes.
Sean you listed some very good parts that you have acquired over time(Nismo clutch, flywheel, intake, header, engine mounts)but in my case I don't see a point in buying all of those items for my Ka when I would be purchasing them sooner or later for the Sr.I think if you want something in life you should save your money, work hard, and get it and this is something I really want despite the consequences that may or may not come with it.
