Hey so i have a monster oil leak on my s14. Oil is everywhere. If i hit over 5grand in any gear it leaks a good bit. I think the leak is coming for the oil pan. Does anyone know how hard it is to do an oil pan gasket? Also is there any other known things that generally go bad on ka24s? it started leaking like a month after i changed my oil and used lucas oil stabilizer. any help would be awsome..thanks
I have learned that the KA does not have an oil pan gasket. It has sealer instead and of course that stuff goes bad after the years go by. Also, I have learned that to seal the oil pan in the correct manner, the entire engine must be lifted up to make room so that you can drop the pan.
The valve cover shouldn't be much of an issue as far as leaking is concerned. You are probably correct in your thinking that the oil pan is the problem.
It is not cheap if you get someone else to do it and if you get a shop to do it, they probably will not do it the right way. They will end up doing a patch work job on the oil pan which will work for about a year. I know that part from experience.
Good luck!
As Amtk240 stated..... most likely it's your oil pan and it's a pain in the A** to drop so you can re-seal it. The valve cover gasket is a stright forward job anyone can handle. Tyipically those are the two common areas that leak on a KA. Unless when you changed your oil you didn't tighten the oil filter enough or it has come lose and oil is leaking from there??? Just put your car up on stands and take a look from underneath and the oil leak should be obvious....
o ok cool thanks guys..i def know that the oil leak isent coming from the oil filter or drain bolt. There was so much oil everywhere that i degreased the bottom of my motor and pressure washed it ha. But that sucks its a hard job..ill just have to wing it..dos anyone know the type of sealant they use for the oil pan?
you use standard RTV, and there is supposed to be a gasket. Any two pieces that mate together have gaskets in between. Its actually not hard at all. I did it on my SR a few years back, and it was the same deal in that it needed the engine to be lifted slightly. It looks a bit easier on a KA. You'll probably spend more time trying to clean off the mating surfaces than you'll spend actually removing/installing the pan.
SilverBullet, there is no gasket. Even the FSM doesn't have it in there. You have to use liquid gasket maker because Nissan did not make an actual gasket to go there on a KA. Try finding a gasket on Courtesy Nissan parts, you won't.
alright cool, it dosent sound to bad. I m about to do a 5 speep swap so when i do that ill just pull the motor and do it then. Thanks for the help tho fellas.
YUP.... that would be the best time to do it!!! It also makes it easier to mate the trans to the motor instead of fighting it under the car. Good Luck!

ah ok, i was thinking the upper oil pan for some reason.
Front and rear main seals? Ussualy go bad on any old motor in general
