I was wondering if the sileighty front ends are legal. Someone was telling me that if you have a 240 with a sileighty front end you won't pass inspection. I was wondering if this was true?
I never had a problem with inspection when I had mine.
lol... NOTHING is legal in VA but its an OEM front so most inspectors wouldnt even know lol. Some dont even notice it.
HEADLIGHTS are not DOT approved, i failed for it
yeah what he said^^^^ if you look on the oem headlights is says dot bla bla bla, on the JdM ones it dosent have that, therefore you FAIL!!!!

Semantics, but DOT doesn't approve anything. The manufacturer self-certifies based on DOT guidelines.
Look for SAE or DOT imprinted on the lens. If not, then the lens is not legal under federal law, which by order of precedence makes it not legal under state law.
most lil gas stations wont even notice the lights arent legal... they usaully jus care if they work or not

There are 2 parts to his question: 1) are they legal, and 2) will they pass inspection?
By definition, these two things should be equal; however, due to improper training and a lack of oversight, illegal things pass inspection.
So does anyone know where I can get these dot approved headlights for the sileighty front end? Also, so the front end of the sileighty is legal in Delaware and will pass inspection except for the lights?

None exists because they were never meant for export to the US, although there are unconfirmed rumours that Euro cars had SAE and DOT imprinted in anticipation of export to the US. You can confirm on your own.

Is the bolded part a question or a statement? If it's a question, then the bumper also doesn't conform to US 5 mph bumper requirements. JDM bumpers only have to hold up the bumper and are designed to be flimsy.

So if the lights and bumper are not federally compliant, they cannot possibly be state legal because states are not supposed to override DOT safety requirements.
This part of the law I am not clear on because it's not clear if states can override federal DOT safety requirements. I'm not sure if the states can override and rule bumpers that fail 5mph crash to be legal for highway use and risk losing federal highway funds, or if states just can't override seatbelts and airbags and lights etc., and let cars be less safe than required by the DOT.
What this means for you is that potentially the state can give you a waiver and thumb their nose at the federal government, but you risk getting a citation in federal court because all US territory falls under federal jurisdiction.
Anyone else can comment?
